Unit 30 Task 1 P1 and M1

Unit 30 Task 1 P1 and M1

The computer system I have chosen to use is the Apple iMac 27” because it is a good screen size. It also has 1 TB of storage so there is plenty of room. It is an all in one computer and monitor so it will also save room on your desk meaning more room for other things. Even though it doesn’t have the latest OS because of the one that comes with it you can upgrade to the latest OS for free.
Even though it has a 1 TB of storage an external hard drive or other storage device would be needed.

The keyboard used would be the apple wireless keyboard that comes with the computer. I have chosen this keyboard because it is wireless and will cut down on wires meaning there are less to get tangled. Also it will make typing easier as you don’t have wires restricting distance from the monitor. Also you can use keyboard shortcuts to change between programs quickly.

The camera I have chosen is the Nikon D3200 Digital SLR because it has 24 megapixels meaning the images would be higher quality. This will lead to the work looking more professional.
A limitation is that if you are taking pictures of something far away and have to zoom in if you zoom to far the picture will become blurred and loose quality. Another limitation is that there aren’t enough mega pixels for large format printing.

The scanner I have chosen is the EPSON Workforce Wireless All-in-One. I have chosen this because it is wireless so if your computer isn’t near your computer you don’t have to worry about having to move it because it will connect. I also chose it because it is an all-in-one which means it is also a printer and photocopier. This means there will be more space than if you had the three separately.
A disadvantage is that the largest paper it can print on or scan from is A4 meaning that if you had anything larger you couldn’t use it and you couldn’t print anything larger than A4. Another limitation is that it can only print on paper or card so if you want to put logos on other materials you need to by other output devices. Another limitation is that it can’t print al the way to the edges of the paper.

The graphics tablet I have chosen is the WACOM Intuos Pen and Touch Medium because it is a good size and can be used with the operating system on the computer I have chosen which means you don’t have to go through the hassle of changing the operating system.
A limitation with this is the sensitivity of the graphics tablet as this could slow down the rate of work. If it is over sensitive it might add things that you didn’t want and if it is under sensitive it wouldn’t draw what you wanted it to

The vinyl cutter I have chosen is the SC631E LIYU vinyl cutter because it has features like a rotating blade holder that allows for greater accuracy. I also chose it because the blade speed is adjustable and is easy to use. I also chose it because it has a copy last job feature which means it will redo the last thing you did so if you do something and need another copy you can use this feature to do it.
A limitation is that it would be that the image would take a while loading the image. Also the more it is used may lead to it becoming degraded which could cause a drop in quality.

The laser cutter I have chosen is the X252 because you can use the programmable origin to make complicated tasks easier. Also it has pass through front and rear doors. This allows you to put extremely long pieces of work in and still use it. I also chose this because of the motor it uses it allows for fast and precise carriage movement to ensure accurate results.
A limitation of this is the thickness of the material it could cut through.

The storage device I have chosen is the WD My Book 4TB External Hard Drive. I have chosen this because it is a good size storage and isn’t overly big. I also chose it because it can be used for full system back up and has password protection with hardware encryption. It also has USB 3.0 which is 3x quicker than USB 2.0 but it still works with USB 2.0.
A limitation of this is the price as to get one with enough storage you would need it could be high cost.

The pieces of software I have chosen are Photoshop, Illustrator and 2D TechSoft. I have chosen Photoshop because it allows you to cut images and overlay different images onto each other. This means you can put the best parts of one image with the best parts of another image. This means higher levels of quality can be achieved.
A limitation of this is that it doesn’t have many features that allow for easy access for the designer to add new images.

Illustrator is a piece of software that allows you to create vector art and illustrations using precise drawing tools. i have chosen this because you can create a wide range of vector graphics like logos, icons and info graphics
A limitation of illustrator is that it is a steep learning curve and could take a while to get used to. This could mean that the quality of your work wont be as good as someone that is used to illustrator.

I have chosen 2D TechSoft to be used with the laser cutter. I have chosen this because it is the only program that is designed for use with a laser cutter. With this you can import graphics done on other programs and put markings where you want it to cut.
A limitation is that it is difficult to set it up with use on a laser cutter.

A limitation to all of the software chosen is that training would be needed on how to use it and how to get the best results.
