Unit 1 Task 6 M3
Learning styles
There are
three different styles of learning. They are Visual, Auditory and Kinaesthetic.
People use all three of these to learn new information. However one or maybe
two of these styles are normally more dominant. Which of these is more dominant
is determined by the person or sometimes the age of the person. Sometimes our
learning styles can be forced upon us through life. At an early age a lot of
new information is presented kinaesthetically. At secondary school a lot of new
information is presented visually. Then at college and university new
information is presented to us through auditory means such as lectures.
A visual
learner is someone that has to see what they have to do in order to complete
the task. An example of this could be watching a video tutorial on how to do
something. This will help them more than doing it through trial and error.
Graphic organisers are visual representations of knowledge, thoughts and ideas.
These are used to aid learners with understanding what they need to do.
Researchers have found that the use of graphic organisers can increase the
amount learnt by visual learners.
An
auditory learner is someone that learns through listening. An auditory learner
may struggle with written instructions when completing a task but once they are
explained to them they will find it easier. Some auditory learners find that
recording information and then listening to it helps them retain information.
They also find retaining information they hear in things like lectures or presentations.
A
kinaesthetic learner is someone that learns by doing. When in a lecture a
kinaesthetic will take notes just for the sake of moving their hands. A
kinaesthetic learner typically uses different colour highlighters for different
areas inside a topic. They also create diagrams to help them retain
information.
The style
I used to complete the work in this unit was visual because I had to read
instructions I found on the internet on how to do things I was unsure about.

Unit 1 Task 5 D1
I used
verbal communication to complete my work. I did this by talking to my
classmates about certain things I was struggling with to see if they had done
something similar to them to keep me on the right track. The disadvantage of
this is if they have done it wrong and you ask them what they have done to
check yours then you may end up doing it wrong. However if you talk to your
classmates that have something different to you and none of you are sure you
can go through what you have done and try to work out what should’ve been done.
Teacher
broadcasting was used in class to demonstrate what to do for the next piece of
work by broadcasting the brief and going through what we had to do. The
advantage of this is that if the work is explained to us we might find it
easier and get it done faster than if we did it just from reading the brief.
The disadvantage of this is if some students either already know what they are
doing or have already done the work it will be a waste of time having it
broadcasted to you.
I used
blogger to upload my work and get it marked and receive feedback on what to
improve if it. The advantage to using blogger to is that when you get feedback
it is as a comment on your post. This is better than verbal feedback because if
you are doing something else and go back to it the comment will still be there
instead of having to remember the feedback. Another advantage is that it makes
marking work easier than having to keep printing it out. A disadvantage is that
it is all online so if the internet crashes the teacher won’t be able to mark
your work and you won’t be able to see comments on previous tasks to make
improvements.
I used
gmail to set up and confirm my blogger account so I could upload work to get it
marked. An advantage to having using gmail is that you get an email when
someone comments on one of your posts. So you know when you have been given
feedback. A disadvantage to this is if you use the account for other things you
get emails that clog up your inbox e.g Facebook and twitter notifications.
I
published images to blogger so I could upload the tasks I did in PowerPoint and
Publisher. The advantage to this is that it is easier to upload by changing it
to a jpeg and then uploading it. This also made it easier to view. I used print
screens to date proof that I had done the work. It also made some of my work
easier when I was doing the dummies guide and meant I could easily put pictures
of what to do in.
I used
PowerPoint because it is a simple way of putting work in a clear logical order.
This helped when it came to making a presentation about effective communication
because it meant I was able to clearly order information. An advantage of using
PowerPoint is that you can change file type you save it as a jpeg to make it
easier to upload to blogger.
I used
publisher because it is easy and simple to use when creating basic
publications. This was helpful when it came to creating my dummies guide
because I was able to create a guide that looked good. An advantage of using
publisher is that you can change the type of file it is saved as. This was
helpful because it meant I could save my dummies guide pages as individual
jpegs to make them easier to upload.
I used Google calendar to keep track of my training and to prove when I had done it. An advantage of using Google calendar is that it can be embedded your calendar into your blogger account so your teacher can check it easily
